FOC's Grand Charity Raffle in aid of Cancer Charities in Sri Lanka and UK.

Towards the beginning of 1989, while the idea of organising the Festival of Cricket was still on the drawing board, the FOC charity project was but a sparkle of thought. However, having been given a conscientious 'kick start' at the very first festival, the Grand Charity Raffle has now become an integral part of the occasion and has matured into a major fund raising project.

The Grand Charity Raffle is primarily for the benefit of Cancer patients at Maharagama Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka where it has enabled FOC to donate many valuable medical items over the years. Medical Aid to Sri Lanka, joins the FOC to recommend and organise the supply of medical equipment for Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

Since 2007, FOC also donates funds to Cancer Research UK, the UK's leading charity dedicated to Cancer research to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer, appreciating their research work.

This year's Grand Charity Raffle tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from any participating school representatives or from the Charity marquee at the Festival. The Festival organising committee greatly appreciate continued support and welcome all Sri Lankans living in UK and friends, again this year to support its Grand Charity Raffle.

The Prizes of Grand Charity Raffle are :

1st Prize: 2 Return Air Tickets to Sri Lanka (Terms and conditions apply) donated by SriLankan Air Lines.

2nd Prize: 1 Return Air Ticket to Sri Lanka (Terms and conditions apply) donated by SriLankan Air Lines.

3rd Prize: A valuable painting of Sri Lankan wild life, donated by Mr. Don Hubert - De Mazenod College OBA, UK

There will be other attractive prizes donated by FOC members and well wishers, and will be updated in http://www.festivalofcricket.org

The Draw will be held at the Festival of Cricket on Sunday 12th July, 2009 at 4.00 pm, at the Winchmore Hill Cricket Club, London N21 3ER. SriLankan Airlines is the main sponsor of the FOC Grand Charity Raffle.

FOC DONATES MONEY TO MAHARAGAMA CANCER HOSPITAL VIA MEDICAL AID TO SRI LANKA

Methsiri Wijeratna, Charity Committee Chariman FOC2007 donates a Cheque for £4000 to Dr Tony Sirimanne, President, Medical Aid to Sri Lanka to buy much needed medical equipment for the Maharagama Cancer Hospital ( L to R - Methsiri Wijeratna, Dr Tony Sirimanne and Dr Deutram Thambapillai, President FOC2008). In addition, this year, FOC donated £1000 to Cancer Research UK, who are engaged in research in to developing a cure for cancer, which would benefit the whole world, appreciating the relevance attached to their research work. Medical Aid to Sri Lanka, a UK based Charity has been apptly chosen by FOC to channel money to buy medical equipment for Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

Festival of Cricket 2007 Charity Draw

Festival of Cricket Charity Draw took place at the Charity marquee with the prizes drawn by the the Sri Lanka High Commissioner, 3/4 drawn by Deputy High Commissioner, 5/6 drawn by FOC President on 15th July 2007 at Winchmore Hill. The Chairman of the FOC charity, Methsiri Winjeratna, would like to thank all those who generously contributed to the success of the charity fund. The results of the draw are as follows.

It is now the 19th year of the FOC and I am proud to say that over the years the Children's Charity has blossomed into an integral part of the FOC. Given that the FOC charity is such a large focal point of the organisation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the participating schools, our committed representatives and executives, the public and other individuals who throughout the years have helped us immensely. In this way we have been able to raise substantial funds for the Mahagarama Cancer Institute.

This year we have been extremely lucky to have many donated prizes for our grand charity raffle, with the first four prizes being incomparable airline tickets. I would like to thank all the donators who have contributed to such prizes and those who have given me continuous support and hard work to make this the grand charity raffle that it is. With these prizes in place I call upon all of you to buy a ticket in order to raise such funds for the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka. I am also pleased to announce that this year, for the first time, we will be allocating part of our raised funds to Cancer Research UK. Since we are a Sri Lankan organisation based in the UK, we thought it would only be righteousness to show generosity to a charity in a country of which has become a home to us all and has shown us equal generosity. Lastly, I would like to share my sincere thanks to all of you who have shown untiring dedication, hard work and generosity throughout all these years. We all appreciate your continued support, morally and financially. You have not only made this one of the greatest Sri Lankan events of the year but to also make a difference in helping our brothers and sisters back home who need our help greatly.
