During the first three years funds raised by the Children’s Charity sub Committee was donated to the Children’s ward, Cancer institute, Maharagama, in the form of essential drugs and surgical items.
1992 - The Charity sub Committee started a project to raise funds to buy a Blood cell Counter for the use of the Children’s Ward, Cancer institute, Maharagama. The contribution towards this project was mainly through the Grand Raffle at the Festival of Cricket and with other donations. The Children charity has been an important part of the Festival of Cricket since its inception.
1995 and 1996 - Children Charity sub committee’s aim is, while continuing to support Children’s ward, Cancer institute, distribute part of the funds rose amongst other needy children institute in Sri Lanka. At present Deaf and blind school, Ratmalana, the Chitra Lane Institutes for disable children and “Sanjeewa Ward” hospital for handicapped people, Akurassa, are some of the places that have been recommended. The Children charity 1995 and 1996 was sponsored by Air lanka and Sky Link Travel Ltd. Total funds collected for the Charity £15000.00.
1997 – The beneficiary from the collections to the Festival of Cricket was the Cancer Institute, Maharagama. Funds collected were £5000.00. Air lanka was the main sponsor of the charity donating two return air tickets to Colombo and Glen Carriers donated two return tickets to Paris.
1998 – This year the Charity launched to donate to the Maharagama Cancer hospital Ultrasound equipment for the detection of breast cancer. The charity has volunteered to support this need and launched the first stage of achieving and eventual target of £30000.00.
1999 – For the eleventh year running the Festival of Cricket Charity will be raising funds for the Maharagama Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka. The desire to help the sick and the needy cancer patients of Sri Lanka is the driving force that has unable the Children Charity to show the compassionate demeanor of the FOC.
2000 – The Festival of Cricket charity continues its generous contributor of funds and equipment to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital Sri Lanka.
2001 – The Festival of Cricket Committee initiated the necessary constitutional changes to accommodate the annual charity raffle as one of the aims of the FOC. As in previous years the Maharagama Cancer Hospital continued to receive funds raised from the sales of raffle tickets at the Festival. Two Patient Immobilization systems to the value of £5000.00 were gifted to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.
2002 – Festival of Cricket pledged to send funds to the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama.
2003 – The Festival of Cricket Charity continues to support the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. The Charity Sub Committee raised much need funds to purchase and donate to the Radio Therapy unit special equipment that enable to measure and control accurately the levels of radiation given during treatment. This special equipment will cost approximately £2000.00. The charity also, hoped to raise enough monies for the purchase and donate “Multiple drug Resistant Tuberculosis” to the Welisara Chest Hospital.
2004 – The Festival of Cricket Charity was able to make generous donations by providing the Cancer Institute with an “Ionisation Chamber” to measure the accurate levels of radiation during Radio therapy, and further donation was made to the chest Hospital Welisara of ‘Nebulisers’ and ‘Biopsy Forceps for Bronchoscope.’ SriLankan Airlines and Exotic First Holidays were the main sponsors of the charity.
2005 – The Charity is an integral part of the Festival of Cricket each year, the Festival of Cricket has provided a focal point for the charity to raise much needed funds for the benefit of patients at the Maharagama cancer institute in Sri Lanka and most recently in aid of the patients suffering from chronic lung disease at the Welisara Chest Hospital. With the help of the funds raised during the last year the charity was able to donate much needed equipment namely a DOSEMETER for the Radiology unit at the Maharagama Cancer institute. However, due to the Tsunami which occurred in Sri lanka the FOC committee have decided to fully focus on raising funds for supporting projects involve in reconstruction programmers to help the victims of Tsunami in Sri Lanka.
2006 – During the past years, the FOC charity has been able to collect funds through the support it has received from participating schools, members of the public and a number of well wishes. We have collected over £50000.00 over the years. This has been used to supply the much needed medical equipments, to the National Cancer Hospital in Maharagama. Once again this year, The Charity aims to raise well in excess of £2000.00.
2007 – The Charity will continue to raise funds to support the National Cancer Institute in Sri Lanka. This year funds collected will also, be allocated to the Cancer Research UK, Our Sponsors SriLankan Airlines.
2008 – From the funds raised last year the charity was able to contribute £4000.00 towards the purchase price of £3800.00 for a Mammography machine for the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. That was sourced by the UK Association for Medical Aid to Sri Lanka. They also, joined our efforts to raise funds. Funds will also, be raised for the Cancer Research UK. 2009 – This year Maharagama Cancer Institute has made a request for an Automatic Film Processor. And we also, donated £1000.oo to the Cancer Research UK.Main Sponsor SriLankan Airline
2010 – The Festival of Cricket’s prime objective is to raise funds for the purchase and supply of hospital equipments to the Maharagama Cancer Institute Sri Lanka whilst also, allocating a part of the funds to the Cancer research UK. This year the charity donated eighteen X-Ray cassettes and screens and five Esophagel Stent systems. The cost of these equipments was over a Million Rupees. Sri Lankan Airlines were the Major sponsors.
2011 and 2012 – Funds raised from 2011 was donated to the Karapitiya Hospital, Galle. Donation of an Incubator and Photo Therapy Lamp to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital. And fund raised in 2012 was donated to the Cancer Unit in Jaffna Hospital on the request of Consultant Oncologist to purchase Radiation Measuring Instrument.Sri Lankan Airlines were the main sponsor during the two years.
2013 – The funds collected during the FOC silver jubilee year will be donated to the Batticoloa Cancer Unite for the purchases of 30 new beds for the newly built unit.
Without the support of our 28 Old Boys Associations in the Festival of Cricket fundraising will never be an easy task. We thank Sri Lankan Airlines for their generous sponsorship of the Charity during the years. And our Main sponsor for many years Bank of Ceylon for helping the charity to transfer the funds to various suppliers in order to purchase the equipments.
