The Association of Old Mahindians in the UK
The Association was started in 1989 with the main aim of assisting Mahinda College and its pupils. This commitment is underpinned by fund raising activities, which includes "Mahinda Nite", Festival of Cricket and collection of other donations both financial and material.
This is our Jubilee year and for the last 25 years our range of activities includes religious, cultural and sporting events. An annual Founders day Alms giving is held at London Buddhist Vihara. The association's cricket team participates in the annual Festival of Cricket, at which Mahinda Team won the FOC Trophy in 2000 and 2002 and Plate winners in 1994 and 2005.
The funds raised in the UK are channeled to provide support to Mahinda College in both academic and recreational areas. During the last few years AOMUK helped the college to establish a computer centre and has sent a large number of computers and other IT equipment. We also provided large amount of laboratory and sports equipment and books for the library.
Last year we installed a CCTV system with 14 security cameras and two monitoring stations for the safety of the College and students.
There are more projects planned for the coming year. Our Annual Dinner Dance- Mahinda Nite 2014 will be held on Saturday the 4th October at Holiday Inn, Wembley.
